the hopheads were a crisis-fueled rock and roll combo from southern ohio who specialized in witty succinct sardonic tounge-in-cheek lyrics, and whom laid down authentic rock and roll. ie the real thing. extremely catchy and dancy songs were left in their wake, and remain ignored to this very day. this song, "the christmas boy", coaxed into being for bryce's infamous christmas album, is a tim skidmore original that would later be remade for his solo album. the typically peculiar dave lakes 'lyrics' added dramatically to this piece, or at least did not subtract, ok well maybe they are distracting as all hell, but they also require your rapt attention. the ordinarily wary and suspicious hopheads in this instance found themselves wholly agreeable to ho-ho records' severe machinations and manipulations, save for being too damn lazy to travel. dave literally phoned-in his part to ho-ho's crackly cassette answering machine. the hopheads live band portion was recorded by the ho-ho mobile unit in middletown, ohio, and anonymous studio musicians at chickenshack recorders added useless and gratuitous organ, harmonica, and percussion.
